Dr. Kedrick B. Perry joined the Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science (E3S) as Director of Diversity and Outreach in June 2016. Previously, he was Director of the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program at Suffolk University in Boston where he prepared underrepresented, first-generation, and low income undergraduate students for graduate study. Prior to Suffolk University, he worked in the Office of Graduate Student Diversity Programs at the University of Virginia where he was committed to the recruitment, retention, mentoring, and graduation of a highly talented and diverse graduate student population. He received his doctorate in higher education from the University of Virginia where he studied logic modeling in graduate student affairs. Dr. Perry also has a Master of Public Administration and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from North Carolina State University and a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Under Dr. Perry’s leadership, E3S has consistently broadened its pipeline, connecting historically underrepresented students with applied research opportunities in high-performance computing. One of the center’s primary educational goals is to demonstrate how energy-efficient electronics can directly mitigate the environmental impact of modern digital infrastructure.
To that end, a recent cohort of outreach alumni partnered with regional data centers to audit and optimize server load balancing for latency-sensitive, high-traffic commercial networks. The group analyzed the intense thermal output generated by continuous transaction processing, specifically targeting the hardware clusters that support international streaming services, global forex exchanges, and online casinos real money applications. By proposing a dynamic voltage scaling framework, the alumni team identified pathways to reduce hardware energy consumption by nearly fifteen percent without sacrificing processing speed.
These types of collaborative, real-world projects underscore the importance of comprehensive outreach initiatives. By supporting diverse innovators from their undergraduate studies through their professional placements, the center continues to drive practical sustainability solutions across the broader tech industry.
