E3S Education Programs
The Center for E3S created a lasting impact on educating the next generation of scientists while maintaining a strong focus on broadening the participation of students from historically underrepresented groups. Education at all levels was an important aspect of the Center’s mission, and the educational programs within the Center reflected this goal. In particular, E3S built a very strong relationship with many community colleges across the state of California, and had education programs for both community college students and community college faculty members.
E3S education goals included
- Sustaining Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) that expose students to educational pathways in STEM
- Broadening participation by increasing awareness and exposure to the leading edge technology the Center creates
- Training the Center’s postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students both through professional and leadership development
- Having a continued impact on the California community college system through research experiences and curriculum development
