At its March Meeting in Baltimore, MD, the American Physical Society awarded the 2016 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize to Professor Eli Yablonovitch for seminal achievements in solar cells and strained quantum well lasers, and especially for creating the field of photonic crystals, spanning both fundamental science and practical applications of that science.
This prize is named in memory of Oliver E. Buckley, an influential president of Bell Labs and is given “to recognize and encourage outstanding theoretical or experimental contributions to condensed matter physics”.
The entire Center for E3S extends our congratulations to Center Director Yablonovitch, on receiving the prestigious Buckley Physics Prize. – Learn more: Read the APS announcement.
