Dr. Michael H. Bartl assumed the position of Executive Director on November 16, replacing Dr. Josephine Yuen, founding Executive Director, who has decided to step down after five plus years of service to the Center.
Dr. Bartl was an Associate Professor of Chemistry at University of Utah, where he served as chair of the Physical Chemistry division and a theme leader in the NSF funded Materials Research Science & Engineering Center: “Next-Generation Materials for Plasmonics and Spintronics”. He has supported education and diversity initiatives, particularly through his work on the Task Force on Women and Minorities at his college that addressed the professional development of underrepresented groups.
“We are delighted to have attracted Dr. Bartl to our center,” said Prof. Eli Yablonovitch, Center Director and Principal Investigator. “Dr. Bartl’s experiences in administration, grant management, education and outreach are most relevant to the work of E3S. I look forward to working with him as he guides the faculty, staff, students and postdocs in establishing a strong legacy E3S in the coming five years.”
